Remember Why (It's Christmas)

Though you are small, Bethlehem, out of you will come One who will be ruler over Israel. He will stand and shepard his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the Lord His God. And they will live securely, for then His greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be their peace. O Bethlehem, the hopes and fears of all the years are met in you tonight.

While Mary and Joseph were in Bethlehem, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them at the inn.

I want to thank you for allowing me, and my music, to be a part of your world for another year.  I‘ve appreciated each and every comment posted and message sent to me, and look forward to sharing another year of podcasts with you.

Merry Christmas to you and your families and God Bless and keep you all.

The Dells - I Touched A Dream
Clean

The Dells have been singing and performing for over five decades, have sold millions of records, and are considered the most enduring vocal group in the history of Rhythm and Blues. Affectionately known as The Mighty Dells by fans and leaders in the music industry, its members – including Marvin Junior (lead baritone), John Carter (lead tenor), Charles Barksdale (bass), Michael McGill (baritone) and Verne Allison (second tenor) – have continued to set the standard for top-to-bottom male harmony.

Initially known as the El-Rays, The Dells started in 1952 in Harvey, Illinois, as five friends from high school. Eventually, the El-Rays cut their very first single, “Darling I Know,” for Chess Records. It went nowhere. Two years later, with a new record contract with Vee Jay Records as The Dells, they released their 3rd recording “Oh What A Night.” It became an immediate R&B hit, finishing third behind Elvis' Don't Be Cruel at number two and Fats Domino's Blueberry Hill on top. The rest was musical history.

In 2004, the Dells were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a well-deserved honor for one of the greatest soul groups of all time. The group performed more sporadically as the decade wore on.  And in August, 2009, tenor lead John Carter died after a long bout with cancer.  The response from around the music world was overwhelming; a reflection on Carter's talent and the often underrated importance of the Dells.

Barry White (The Time Is Right)

Barry Eugene White (September 12, 1944 – July 4, 2003).

A five-time Grammy Award-winner Barry White was known for his distinctive bass voice and romantic image, White's greatest success came in the 1970s as a solo singer and with the Love Unlimited Orchestra crafting many enduring soul, funk, and disco songs such as his two biggest hits, "You’re My First, The Last, My Everything” and "Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love Baby". Worldwide, White had many gold and Platinum albums and singles, with combined sales of over 100 million.

Barry learned his craft as engineer, producer and all-round musician, and was able to play every instrument presented to him, with the exception of strings and horns.  His first taste of success came in 1963 with his involvement with Bob and Earl on "Harlem Shuffle”.

In 1972, he got his big break producing a girl group he had discovered called Love Unlimited, (formed in imitative style of The Supremes),  and created The Love Unlimited Orchestra, a 40-piece orchestral group to be used originally as a backing band for Love Unlimited. In 1974 he released an album of their music titled "Rhapsody in White", which yielded the now-timeless composition "Love's Theme," and reached #1 on the Billboard Pop charts. It was one of only a handful of instrumental recordings ever to do so.  In October 1974 he married Glodean James of Love Unlimited and they became the hippest couple in showbiz.

On July 4, 2003, he died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His remains were cremated, and the ashes were scattered by his family off the California coast.

On September 20, 2004, he was posthumously inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in New York.

“Barry White (The Time Is Right)” contains 20 mood-setting songs by The Icon of Love himself. N-Joi!

The Mellow Moods of Michael Henderson

Michael Henderson first gained world wide recognition as an acclaimed young bass player with groups such as "The Detroit Emeralds", "The Fantastic Four", "The Funk Brothers" and was the FUNK anchor for Stevie Wonder, at the tender age of 19! Musicians marveled at his prowess and knowledge of his instrument.  After one such extraordinary, truly inspiring Stevie Wonder concert, Legendary Trumpeter Miles Davis made his way backstage only to inform Stevie, "I'm Takin' Yo F@&(*(%@ Bass Player!"  The rest is history!

Michael Henderson performed on more than 50 Miles Davis Albums, and simultaneously while recording with Miles, played bass on "You're The Man," with singer Marvin Gaye, the album/single "Whatcha See is Whatcha Get!" and "In The Rain" both  by "The Dramatics".

Michael traveled with Miles, until he decided to write, sing and record his first hit, "Valentine Love" on the Norman Connors album, "Saturday Night Special" featuring the smooth vocals of Michael Henderson and Jean Carn!  Following this hit release was the super phenomenal, "You Are My Starship" from the Norman Connors Album of the same name.  Though it is often times thought that Norman Connors is the vocalist, it is actually the vocal stylings, of Michael Henderson himself, also Bassist, Composer, Arranger and Producer of this classic!  He then went on to record several albums, "In The Night-Time", "Wide Receiver", "Solid", "Goin' Places", "Do It All", Sling Shot", "BedTime Stories", and "Fickle", which garnered many top ten  hits.

Michael Henderson, who is, and always has been a class act, a gentleman and talent extraordinaire is busy working on his newest project, and so while we eagerly await it’s release, I invite you to click play and enjoy the “Mellow Moods of Michael Henderson”
